Focus on techniques?

Perhaps an expressive face? No, I'm sticking with the symbology derived from Hindu deities researched earlier, but using a very western animal, "subverting" things somewhat. Okay, not really, but here I believe I'm allowed to do more or less what I want.

I'm having a lot of fun working on creature design for the large illustration, but I must remember that this is just a visual focus point and a way of communicating numerous narratives explaining or documenting aspects of the course. Books (zines) perhaps? There is limited space, so not everything can be instantly apparent, hence an eye-catching deity doing the things, but allowing the audience to interact with the narratives of their own accord. Sequential art has been a very important aspect of the illustration specialism, and the comprehension of this can be evidenced by... actually doing some.

But how do I do the books? How do we like to read?
We unfold the stories from the flat image. I have made maquettes, and from these have discovered that the most accessible approach to a single fold-out is a concertina, as it takes less time to unfurl a large surface. I need to look for nice paper or card to use as backing - this will be a thorough search until I find what is perfect.

I've been looking at art using pressed flowers as a way of showing collection and display in small narratives. It's also a hobby of mine, and can show how we are inspired by nature and the world around us when creating.  Lisa Earl displays her collections in a very aesthetically pleasing way. Beautiful. Shelley Xie creates a range of subjects mixing traditional media and pressed flowers, an idea more akin to what I plan to do. Oh yeah, totally forgot I'd already done this.

This post on my other blog has an excellent poster collection. Typography ♥.

Today I have pressed a lot of flowers. I hope they will be ready in time.
